Phoenix—In its inaugural year in 2007, McMurry Charities, one of two charitable arms of McMurry Inc., donated more than $64,000 to 56 organizations around the world as part of the company’s broader goal of giving $1 million to charity over five years ending in 2011.

“McMurry Charities provides an opportunity for our staff to direct funds to places of their personal choosing,” CEO Chris McMurry said. “It is another example of our unique culture, where empowerment rules and our people, clients, business and others benefit as a result.”

Not surprisingly, the donations went to a wide variety of causes, including 15 health-oriented charities, such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; six animal rescue and wildlife charities, including Keeper Rescue in Amsterdam, New York and Arizona Animal RESCUE Society; four environmental organizations, including the Living World Ecology Center in Ravena, New York; the rebuilding in New Orleans; and even toward keeping the tradition of holiday lights glowing in a neighborhood in Saratoga Springs, New York, where McMurry has an office.

“Another very positive result of McMurry Charities is our staff getting even more involved in the community with their time,” said VP/Creative Director Beth Tomkiw, who leads the charity committee for the company’s Phoenix office. “We sponsored people who biked, ran, walked and swam more than 211 miles for charity, contributed 13 boxes of supplies to the West Valley Child Crisis Center in Arizona and cooked dinners for homeless and troubled youths at HomeBase Youth Services in Arizona.”

Theresa’s Fund is the company’s other charitable arm and focuses on the prevention of domestic violence. Founded in 1992, it has achieved many notable moments, including donating more than $3 million in matching grants and helping to raise more than $30 million through its fundraising consulting. Recently, Theresa’s Fund named Tucson Centers for Women and Children in Tucson, Arizona and Vanderheyden Hall in Wynantskill, New York, as recipients of $700,000 in grants.

“For 15 years, McMurry and its staff members have been donating money, time and effort to shelters in need through Theresa’s Fund,” McMurry said. “Our staff feels a close connection to Theresa’s Fund and they have many other causes that are near and dear to their hearts. McMurry Charities helps us accept social responsibility in a complete way.”
