Phoenix— McMurry, one of the largest independent marketing communications firms in the country, has hired Russell Cherami as group publisher. Cherami will oversee the advertising sales teams for The Ritz-Carlton magazine, Amtrak’s Arrive, Vim & Vigor and 6, McMurry’s revolutionary new media experience.

Cherami joins McMurry from Saveur Magazine, where he held the position of publisher. He was with Forbes magazine from 1985 to 2004, most recently serving as vice president of advertising. Under his direction, advertising sales for the nation’s No.1 business magazine generated more than $100 million in ad revenue.

“Today’s media marketplace is evolving. There is a rising demand for content marketing supported by advertising and McMurry is well positioned for handling this trend,” says Fred Petrovksy, president of content marketing at McMurry, in reference to the 2008 ContentWise Publishing Characteristics Survey, which states that more than one in five custom publications carry advertisements. “Russ’ experience and accomplishments in publishing and advertising sales will allow him to lead our ever-expanding publishing teams and to build on our already highly successful advertising-based publications.”

Cherami will be based in New York City.
