Amtrak Has Arrived!

The stock market might be having its ups and downs, but all signs are pointing toward positive for the on-board magazine Arrive that McMurry manages for Amtrak, America’s railroad and the nation’s leading intercity passenger rail provider.

Take for example, that the magazine’s advertising sales have increased more than 20 percent year-over-year, and have already established a new all-time high sales record for any full-year period, with advertisers such as Marriott Hotels, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group and the MoMA.

“There aren’t many magazines reporting that this year will be their best year ever,” said McMurry President Fred Petrovsky. “The quality of Arrive content, the heightened popularity of riding trains and the high net worth captive audience make Arrive a must-have medium for all sorts of businesses targeting the northeast corridor of the United States.”

First Lady Michelle Obama graced the cover of the recent Arrive inaugural Health & Wellness issue and wrote the cover story, as part of her focus on the anti-obesity initiative, “Let’s Move!”

“The growth of Arrive and its increasing appeal is very rewarding,” says Editor-in-Chief Leigh Flayton, who added that an all-time high 28.7 million people rode Amtrak during the most recently completed calendar year. “And to see that the White House is as proud of this issue as we are is just the icing on the cake. Scratch that. The fruit atop the vegetables!”

Also, Arrive contributor Liz Johnson entered her Arrive 2010 Food Issue cover story, Dinner Conversations, in this year’s Association of Food Journalists’ competition for “Best Food Feature in a Magazine”—and now she’s in the finals.
