McMurry Exceeds $1 Million Cash Giving Goal

An in-depth look at the McMurry's charitable achievements.
McMurry Exceeds $1 Million Cash Giving Goal

Phoenix—In 2007, McMurry established a five-year goal to give $1 million in cash to charities through its two charitable arms, Theresa’s Fund and McMurry Charities. That five-year span came to a close in December 2011, and McMurry is proud to share that it exceeded the goal’s expectations and actually donated $1,229,863, $196,360 of which was given in 2011.

Donations made through Theresa’s Fund and McMurry Charities to nonprofits around the world are the result of gifts made by McMurry’s 180-person staff and by McMurry itself.

Since its inception in 2006, McMurry Charities has given $415,117 to 225 nonprofits around the world through staff requests. McMurry Charities is designed to represent the giving interests of each and every staff member, and consequently, each donation made is requested and selected solely by individual staff members. In 2011, McMurry Charities donated to 64 nonprofits around the world, with an average gift amount of $1,505.

Our staff members’ giving goes beyond cash, too. For instance, they participated in 20 charitable events in 2011 (and have participated in more than 60 since 2006), such as assembling care packages full of food, entertainment and other life necessities for American troops in the Middle East; holding food, toy and school supplies drives for children and families in need; creating handmade Mother’s Day gifts for women in need; and participating in fundraisers for nonprofits such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and the American Liver Foundation.

Theresa’s Fund combats child abuse and domestic violence in all forms in Arizona and in The Capital Region of New York, where McMurry has a campus in Saratoga Springs. Staff members at McMurry select charities that, over a five-year period, receive all or part of a $750,000 matching gift. The current recipients are Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse in Tucson, Ariz., which has become the largest domestic violence shelter and services provider in southern Arizona since being selected, and Parsons Child and Family Center in Albany, N.Y.
